The Foodbank, Inc.

"For over 40 years, The Foodbank has served as the primary source of food for the hunger relief network in the Miami Valley. The Foodbank – the only one of its kind in the area – relieves hunger in the community through a network of partner agencies by acquiring and distributing food. The Foodbank provides the infrastructure for more than 100 member food pantries, community kitchens, and shelters that serve as the charitable hunger relief network in Montgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties.

The Foodbank strives to provide healthy, nutritious meals to all individuals we serve. Although The Foodbank’s mission is simple, making it happen is a great undertaking that grows larger every day. Countless individual volunteers help us organize food drives, help sort and distribute food to the needy and help us raise much needed funds.

No other organization in the Miami Valley does what we do."

Watering Your Landscape

sprinkler It's been a relatively dry fall so far…

it's important to keep your lawn and landscape well watered… at the minimum, an inch or more per week, especially for recent plantings, even over the winter months, temperatures permitting. Frequent watering helps your plantings prepare for the winter months when they will be dormant. Healthy dormant plants will very probably survive an Ohio winter.

Questions? Contact Deal's for help and advice! We want to help you maintain your landscape over the winter months.

Fall Planning

Even in the torrential downpour, we are making plans for this coming fall. Fall is the best time for planting new plants that are set to take off in the spring. Stop by and admire our selection of shade trees and evergreens for your home. We also offer fall cleanup and leaf removal after the beautiful colors of autumn have left us. Let us know how we can help you get your landscape and property setup for this coming winter.

Speaking of winter, we are selling cut Christmas trees again this year. They will be available the weekend before Thanksgiving, so keep us in mind for decorating your home for this holiday season.

Several people in our community have fallen victim to armyworm infestations. If you'd like more information regarding how to identify or treat armyworm infestations, visit this website [ https://bygl.osu.edu/index.php/node/1859 ]. If you would like to do an at home test, mix a little dish soap in water and pour it on a section of your yard. If the worms come up after an hour or so, you may need to seek further treatment.

Thanks for thinking of Deal's.

Caryn Weaks

Caryn

Caryn Weaks, a valued co-worker at Deal's for some 29 years and, more importantly, a great friend to us all, passed on Saturday, January 23, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Remembrances from a few of her friends and colleagues at Deal's:

“I always found Caryn to be generous. She would bring in food, clothes and toys for us and our families. She used to say she had a 6th sense; she could tell who walked into the shop by how the door opened or how our boots sounded on the steps. Many customers would comment on how nice she was to talk to on the phone and how helpful she was. It’s sad that so many people she interacted with will only ever know her voice; never really got to see or meet the person she was beyond the phone.”

“Caryn was a rock to lean on whenever we needed help. She was the person to depend on anytime she was asked. She was also very imaginative and was the source behind our Gingerbread Barn at Christmas. One fall day, after walking to the mailbox, she came back into the office and said ‘We should make this barn into a gingerbread house. It’s the right color.’ And then, with her inspiration, we made it happen. She always had a smile on her face. Then there were her fingernails; always long, colorful, playful and constantly changing. We miss you Caryn.”

“Caryn was one employee who was always at work early or on time. If she wasn’t at the office on time, I knew something was wrong. When she was early, we would sit and chat for a few minutes before getting to work. Whenever she was overloaded with work, she never let it bother her. She always knew she’d get it done. And she did. Mostly, I miss our morning chats when we solved the troubles of the world. I know she loved her kids and grandkids and would do anything in the world for them. There will never be another Caryn. She’s dancing with the angels now.”

"Caryn was always a great rep for Deal's! I've been a Deal's client for over 35 years, Caryn was always one of the best reps for their company… friendly, understanding, and always more than willing to go the extra mile to help with any problem. I'll really miss her!"

You'll be greatly missed, Caryn!
